Vitamin D toxicity is rare but can occur when taking high doses of 60,000
IU per day over several months. Taking a high single monthly dose (up
to 150,000 IU) has been well researched with good clinical outcomes, is
common medical practice, well tolerated, with no known adverse
reactions or side effects.
Clinical Vitamin D toxicity is defined as Vitamin D serum levels higher
than 250 nmol/L which can cause a buildup of calcium in your blood
(hypercalcemia). Vitamin D levels higher than 250 nmol/L is rarely seen
in the Australian population.
Signs of hypercalcemia include nausea, dehydration, constipation,
vomiting, weakness & frequent urination.
