Lymphatic Massage @CURACO

What is Lymphatic Massage?

Lymphatic Massage is a form of gentle massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the bodily tissues. Some health conditions can cause lymph fluid to build up. Lymphatic drainage massages can benefit people with lymphedema, fibromyalgia, and other conditions.

Lymphatic massage can reduce swelling and improve circulation throughout the lymphatic system. Lymphatic massage usually forms part of a treatment program called decongestive lymphatic therapy (DLT)

Lymphatic Drainage

The Lymphatic system is responsible for collecting and removing waste and toxins from the bodily tissues, acting as a systematic garbage collection service.

  1. Reduce post-op swelling Lymphatic massage reduces swelling and leads to 50% quicker post-op recovery.
  2. Reduced post-op pain Hundreds of patients and multiple studies show lymphatic massage to reduce post-op soreness.
  3. Better overall results By removing excess tissue and fluids under the skin, lymphatic drainage helps you to achieve a better overall appearance.
  4. Detoxification and Cleanse As the go-to lymphatic cleansing procedure, drainage helps you flush toxins out of your body.
  5. Relaxation and Energy Patients often feel extremely joyful and energized for weeks after the procedure.

Why Is Post-operative Lymphatic Massage Important?

The lymphatic system is made up of a large network of tissues, vessels, and organs that work in conjunction to maintain fluid levels in our body, support immune function, and keep blood circulating. After surgery, these fluids can harden, which causes the body to swell and can be quite painful and uncomfortable. Reducing inflammation and promoting circulation will ensure the hardening of fluids is prevented.

When the body has experienced stress, such as cosmetic or plastic surgery, the lymphatic system can slow down. Lymphatic massage helps to restart the system by promoting the movement of the built up fluid, allowing it to move back into the lymphatic passages where excess waste and fluid can be flushed from the body. This will assist with reducing swelling and bruising, the prevention infection and fibrosis, which is the development of thick, fibrous scar tissue under the skin.

What is recommended?

With liposuction and cosmetic procedures, it is recommended to attend twice a week for the first 2-6 weeks post-op, until bruising and swelling has gone, this may be anywhere between 3 to 6 months post-operative. Other surgeries may require lymphatic drainage to commence between 3-4 weeks post-operative. We advise that you consult with your surgeon on what they think is most suitable for you.
